72 HOURS

Short documentaries

Director: Grant Brown, Nicole Yeatman

Length: 13 minutes

Late on a July night in Waltham, Massachusetts, police officers came to the home of Josh Sabey and Sarah Perkins and demanded the couple hand over their two young sons—who were inside sleeping—to child protection officers. The police didn’t have a warrant but threatened to break the door down if the couple didn’t comply. In “72 HOURS,” Josh and Sarah relive the worst period of their lives, starting with the hospital visit that put their family in the crosshairs of Massachusetts’s notoriously aggressive Department of Children & Families. Josh and Sarah, both children of lawyers, were well aware of their constitutional rights and their innocence—but still found themselves helpless, unable to protect their children against the government.
